Fountains and Monuments of Rome

The Trevi Fountain is one of the most famous in the city. Legend has it that if you turn your back and toss a coin in, you are guaranteed to return to Rome.

Well, we're not sure. The pristine and uncrowded photo above is in stark contrast to the mass of tourists viewing it from the other side! Maybe you'd come back, but probably choose a less busy tourist season.

You can't swim in this water, but on a hot day....?

The Pantheon is a beautiful cylindrical building with six huge columns and is one of the best preserved from around 200 AD.

We also got spend some time in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. Though home to the Sistine Chapel, our short, one-hour visit wouldn't even make a slight dent in the 2+ long line to get in. We had to be content to see the many statues and buildings that are so revered by members of the Catholic Church.

The Pope appears to the church faithful in one of two windows in the right side of the brown building across the way. This square can get really packed!

Pop decided to send himself a postcard from the Vatican Post Office, since it has it's own government and is independent. It's right in the middle of the city of Rome!
